Solve: x² − 9x + 20 = 0Answer: AFactor: (x − 4)(x − 5) = 0, so x = 4 or x = 5.
-
If f(x) = 2x² − 3, what is f(−2)?Answer: Cf(−2) = 2(−2)² − 3 = 2(4) − 3 = 8 − 3 = 5.
-
Simplify: (x⁴)³Answer: BWhen raising a power to a power, multiply the exponents: 4 × 3 = 12.
-
What is log₂ 32?Answer: Blog₂ 32 asks what power of 2 equals 32. Since 2⁵ = 32, the answer is 5.
-
If f(x) = x + 4 and g(x) = 3x, what is f(g(2))?Answer: AFirst g(2) = 3 × 2 = 6. Then f(6) = 6 + 4 = 10.
-
In a right triangle, the side opposite angle A is 3 and the hypotenuse is 5. What is sin A?Answer: DSine is opposite ÷ hypotenuse, so sin A = 3/5.
-
Simplify: √50Answer: B√50 = √(25 × 2) = √25 × √2 = 5√2.
